TAG Heuer Eyewear celebrate Tommy Milner and Corvette

Following the design of the new 2014 Helmet for Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner (see below), I was commissioned by TAG Heuer Eyewear to produce an illustration celebrating the return of Tommy Milner and Corvette GT cars to Daytona. The style was a modern day version of the classic Le mans and Monaco GP posters and should hopefully be the start of a series. Obtaining reference proved a challenge as the new Corvette C7.R livery was only launched earlier this week, so I started with reference images of their camouflage test car, which was a challenge. The C5.R also proved a challenge early on. Winner at the 2001 event, before the internet took off, there was little imagery around, but legendary photographer, John Brooks came to the rescue with 10 images of the C5.R at that race.

A larger image resides on TAG Heuer Eyewear’s Facebook page, which is also where you will be able to download desktop wallpaper of the design shortly.

The video has proved very popular with Jalopnik, Speedhunters and Motorsport.com all carrying it. It was a great project to work on and start my relationship with TAG Heuer Eyewear which continues in 2014.

You can see my full Portfolio Post on the Tommy Milner TAG Heuer Eyewear helmet here.

I used the ‘simple’ TAG Heuer shield which is normally seen on watch straps and eyewear arms as a graphic device. Continue Reading
