2018 WeatherTech Le Mans Spotter Guide

Its been a busy few months with liveries and Spotter Guides galore. Sadly that has resulted in a lack of updates on Andy Blackmore Design. Fear not, for the 2018 WeatherTech Le Mans Spotter Guide is available to download for free on sister site. SpotterGuides.com

The guide features all 60 entries with a huge list of info on each car down to driver grades and social media handles. The guide has been update throughout race week, which ensures this is the most up to date entry list and guide online. You can download the guides here

The Colors of IMSA

If everything aligns with delivery, this weekend will see the debut of a new IMSA t-shirt at Virginia International Raceway.

The Colors of IMSA showcase 16 liveries from the 2016 series from the iconic colors of Corvette, Turner Motorsport (hopefully 😉 ) and Stevenson to some of the striking new colors this year including the Gas Monkey Viper and the new Ford GT. Can you guess the rest?

On the rear, all the full time teams are listed.

The shirt should be on-sale at the IMSA Shop on site at Virginia International Raceway and will then be online in the next week or so.

If you are attending VIR this weekend, don’t forget to grab the official IMSA Spotter Guides at my sister site, SpotterGuides.com

One year on: The Winning Cars of Justin Wilson – Wallpaper released

ABD_JW_WALLPAPER_THUMB

It is hard to imagine it has been a year since Justin Wilson passed away. As has been repeated around the world on the internet, at the circuits, in the media, Justin Wilson was a very special racer, to quote Robin Miller, “…he didn’t have a bad bone in his body”.

As part of the fundraising efforts following his death, I worked with then Indycar artist (now Haas F1 Creative Guru!) Ryan Long to produce a very limited edition print showcasing all of Justin’s winning cars.

All 50 prints sold out within a couple of days and thanks to Rowland Printing, the print now hangs in various homes and workplaces round the globe, including the Wilsons.

Additional Nissan vector illustrations

Nissan have recently released a couple of infographics featuring my illustrations.

The image above features a new illustration of the 1991 Spa 24 class winning Skyline R32 GT-R. It was quite hard to find good reliable reference for this and had no scale drawing to work from, so many photos were required to accurately replicate the livery right down to the front brake caliper. The R35 GT-R behind was also updated from launch spec to the Spa 24 identity it will run at the legendary race.

Its a long one, so grab a coffee. Links below.  Thanks for the opportunity Scott and Dusty, it was great fun.

Vehicle Livery Templates update.

With the rush of IMSA so called ‘off-season’ past us and wrapping up other projects, it is  a good opportunity to catch up on vehicle templates now available, ready for liveries!

These templates have been produced using OEM or team supplied art, are to scale and fully vector.

Creating any template takes hours, so having these assets built and to hand makes the design process more efficient and cost effective. Working with scale templates are vital for a smooth design and vinyl/paint application process. As a trained Vehicle Stylist, I understand how a 2D graphic works on 3D form perfectly. Once signed off, these are ready within hours for print and vinyl production, streamlining the livery process.

I also have a full suite of templates for team and fan clothing and race haulers.

A summer of recent templates:

GT3:
Aston Martin Vantage GT3
Audi R8 LMS GT3
Audi R8 (2015,6) GT3 (WIP)
BMW M6 GT3
BMW Z4 GT3
Dodge Viper GT3 (WIP)

The Winning cars of Justin Wilson Print – SOLD OUT

EDIT: The print is now sold out. Thank you to everyone who purchased the print and rasied over $6000 for the Wilson Children’s Fund

Words: Marshall Pruett, Racer Magazine.

Justin Wilson fans have a new charity print to purchase that will support the wife and children of the late racecar driver. Created by renowned livery designer Andy Blackmore and IndyCar digital artist Ryan Long, the two have come together to create a print depicting each car Wilson drove to victory in a career spanning three decades.

From the Formula Vauxhall Junior car Wilson used to earn his maiden win in 1994 to the Dallara DW12-Honda that took the Briton to Victory Lane for the final time in 2012, 14 cars have been created by Blackmore & Long. And in some cases where images and logos were hard to find, the Wilson family, including Justin’s father Keith, provided invaluable help to accurately recreate the cars.

Altogether, 32 people came together to make the $125 print possible, and of note, Noblesville, Ind.-based Rowland Printing donated the labor and material costs to produce the print. The batch of 50 prints, done at 18″x12″, will be sold on eBay starting at approximately 9 p.m. ET at the following link: http://stores.ebay.com/Celebrity-Charity-Auctions/Justin-Wilson-Memorial. All proceeds will go directly to the Wilson Children’s Fund.

“I had originally met Justin a few times when we were both still in the UK during his time in Formula Vauxhall and always followed his career more closely than others,” Blackmore told RACER. “I wanted to help Justin’s family following his untimely passing and used the helmet graphic from an old Champ Car illustration as the basis of the helmet tribute sticker that helped spread the word, was used as a tribute, and more importantly, raised funds for the Children’s Foundation. 2015 Le Mans supporting artwork

After Daytona, the run-up to Le Mans is very busy for me, not that I am complaining. Oh no!

1990_2015_lr

In addition to the NISMO Le Mans Spotter Guide and the livery design for the #21 Nissan GT-R LM NISMO prototype (which also features here in the above graphic), I also assist teams with various graphic assets.

Sticking with Nissan, I supply the NISMO motorsport organisation with various vehicle, and helmet illustrations which their PR guru, Paul Ryan then integrates into inforgraphics, press releases and press packs.

The lead image features Nissan Athlete LM P1 roster, with cars. Great fun drawing these helmets, many from low res or awkward angled images as these Le Mans spec helmets had only been used on test day, or were still being painted

Andrea de Cesaris 1959-2014

Very sad to hear of the untimely passing of Andrea de Cesaris during this past weekend. A much under-rated driver who also had one of the longest ever careers in F1 with a good hand of podium finishes. He almost won a couple of times, bar mechanical issues. Many people forget he also raced in Sportscars with Lancia (see DSC link below).

This sad news is close to home. One of my very first commissions was presented to AdC by his Fan Club and Marlboro at the Belgium GP 22 years ago.

Adc

It was a real pleasure to create this montage for him. A very dedicated racer (you dont find many who will help the mechanics build their car when pushed for time) but also a very genuine and friendly guy who always said hello to this almost stranger.

RIP Andrea. Forza Andrea
