Way back in early 2011, I was working on vehicle customisation for Need for Speed The Run. EA had managed to obtain the rights for the Porsche 918 RSR Concept car which had been previewed earlier that year.
Each car in-game has 2-3 levels of visual progression with a choice of colours at each level. I approached Porsche AG about creating some retro 917 liveries for the 918RSR given their heritage. It took a while but they eventually agreed to the three above, Hippy, Porsche Salzburg and the Pink Pig.
Martini was refused due to Alcohol in games. Each had to be approved by Porsche Legal and their Design studio.
Fast forward to today, over a year later and the final production cars are testing, with some interesting graphics! Porsche had applied some of the same retro liveries. Along with Martini, the Porsche Salzburg livery (left) will be available as an option on the road car! No surprise they didn’t use the Pink Pig Livery!
I wonder if my designs may have been the catalyst within Stuttgart? I can dream….
