Formula Drift Fan Favourite, Danny George reached out to me for his 2014 livery. Danny has been competing in Formula Drift for a couple of years with a first generation Mazda MX-5 Miata. In 2013 his introduced crowd sourcing and the ability for fans to donate and have a picture on his car in a camouflage livery. For 2014, Danny wanted a new design around the same concept for his new purpose build second generation (NB) Miata.
I was fortunate to be asked to contribute to the 2013 GT and Endurance Review book put together by l’endurance and Dailysportscar.com and powered by Nissan. I contributed in a very small way with some illustrations for the Blancpain Endurance Series and World Endurance Championship. The e-book is simply epic and I advise any racing fan to download it for free now.
The 2014 Racing Wallplanner PDF has finally been launched at out sister site SpotterGuides.com. Its launch also signals a new look to the website which will be familiar to visitors of this very website.
After feedback, the guide has been released as a PDF, which allows you to maintain crisp resolution regardless of size. You can view the Wallplanner in our new ‘GUIDES’ section of the SpotterGuides website
Feel free to spread the word on social media 😉
With so many livery and design projects for Daytona, I’ve created a Portfolio Post as a quick overview, which you can read here
After a successful six years producing the official American Le Mans Series Spotter Guide, race car livery designer, Andy Blackmore has partnered with IMSA to produce a new Fan Raceday Viewing Guide for 2014
The new style guide features all 67 cars with their liveries along with driver rosters, chassis, engine and class details for every car in the Tudor SportsCar Championship. In addition, 40 of the Continental Tires SportsCar Challenge cars are also shown in the guide which will be updated prior to each race.
The guide is produced by IMSA and Andy Blackmore Design and is currently being printed and will be available at the circuit, but the online version, released today has the very latest driver list and liveries including some designs not seen before. Continue Reading
Following the design of the new 2014 Helmet for Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner (see below), I was commissioned by TAG Heuer Eyewear to produce an illustration celebrating the return of Tommy Milner and Corvette GT cars to Daytona. The style was a modern day version of the classic Le mans and Monaco GP posters and should hopefully be the start of a series. Obtaining reference proved a challenge as the new Corvette C7.R livery was only launched earlier this week, so I started with reference images of their camouflage test car, which was a challenge. The C5.R also proved a challenge early on. Winner at the 2001 event, before the internet took off, there was little imagery around, but legendary photographer, John Brooks came to the rescue with 10 images of the C5.R at that race.
A larger image resides on TAG Heuer Eyewear’s Facebook page, which is also where you will be able to download desktop wallpaper of the design shortly.
Press Release:
These two race cars will catch the eye even when they are standing still thanks to brand new race liveries created for the team by renowned automotive artist, Andy Blackmore.
Team owner, CJ Wilson can barely contain his enthusiasm. “The new race season is here and we have been looking forward to it greatly. As a team we trended upward and won some races last season – and keeping all four of our drivers together makes our team even stronger than 2013. After two years of developing we really feel like this will be our best year yet from a partnership standpoint and from the pit crew and driver perspective everyone is amped and ready to fight for a championship.”
The eye catching new team liveries are also helping to raise Wilson’s excitement levels. “Our MX-5s look fantastic! We have kept the same graphical shape but we have added new types of material to both wraps. The #3 and the #5 cars will be showing up in a lot of Daytona pit lane pictures for sure!”
Press Release:
24-hour sports car endurance races are as much a matter of survival as competition – an adage even more accurate this week, as DeltaWing Racing Cars prepares to battle more than 60 fellow competitors in the inaugural event of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
A host of new elements have made the virtually nonexistent off season an interesting one for the DeltaWing team: a new livery, designed by Andy Blackmore Design, a new tire (the Prototype class runs exclusively on Continental tires), a new television network (all TUDOR Championship races will be on the FOX network) and of course, the new series itself. With the former American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am series now united, the Prototype class has grown to a whopping 18 cars.
Press Release:
As the beginning of the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season descends upon us in just a couple short weeks it is with great pleasure and excitement that we release the new livery design for the No. 94 BMW Z4 GTD entry for the Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona. Since the decision to run the new Z4 platform in 2014 was made there has been a multitude of changes to our program; with a new car comes new equipment, new parts, new procedures and of course a new graphics package.
“With the transition to the new Z4 cars, we felt we needed to evolve our current liveries into something that would be suitable for the extreme curves and unique lines of the Z4 body.†Commented Will Turner. “We wanted to make sure the new Z4 livery preserved the historic Turner Motorsport look and colors but also wanted it to give us something new and exciting and I think this Andy Blackmore livery does both. Blue and yellow BMWs are synonymous with Turner, standing out from the competition year after year.â€Â
The blue and yellow livery dates back to 1997 with Will Turner’s first E36 World Challenge Touring car which was indistinguishably modeled after the 1995-96 Renault British Touring Car liveries. The bright combination of the royal blue and bright yellow jumped off the TV screen setting the cars apart from the rest of the field.
Audi AG announced their 2014 TUDOR United Sports Car Championship campaign earlier today including an Audi R8 LMS Ultra for Californian based race team GMG.
There was a strong desire from the team for a clean design with interesting finishes (more to come on that!) and not using the ‘Blade’ as a colorway divider. GMG has a cool graphic logo present on most of their race cars through the years, so wanted to isolate that out and make it integral to the livery. The livery will make its debut at the Rolex 24 at the end of January.
Owner, Alex Welch will be joined by James Sofronas who took second place in the drivers championship of the Pirelli World Challenge. Audi Sport customer racing drivers Frank Stippler who came in the third place in last year’s race and Marc Basseng will join the team as they strive for success in the new Championship.
It is with great pleasure I can announce an agreement with IMSA to produce Spotter Guide art for the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship and the feeder IMSA Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge throughout 2014!
The guides will be included in a special fan guide which IMSA will be producing. This will be available online and also at the track.
The first guide for the Rolex24 is already in production with over 100cars to produce, 68 TUDOR and the leading 40 Continental cars. Teams have been contacted and liveries are now coming in. In addition I have created a number of liveries for teams this year. It is great to be continue the IMSA connection with the Spotter Guide series after six years producing the official American Le Mans Spotter Guides.
I will be at the ROAR Test in early January if any teams want to discuss their appearance in the new Spotter Guides.
The second Andy Blackmore Design Newsletter is now available and contains information on the Tudor United Sports Car Championship Spotter Guide for 2014, latest liveries and a festive message, as shown above.

Long time client, Saudi-Falcons showed off their all new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup cars this week ahead of the opening round of the Porsche 911 GT3 Challenge Middle East this weekend.
Developed from the 2012/13 livery, the design has evolved with the Saudi Falcon graphic moved rearward on the all new car to accommodate series branding and other sponsors. As before, the two car team will run in different colours. Previous Champion and Red Bull Athelete , Abdulaziz Turki Al Faisal will run in Blue and Chrome Blue while current silver GT3 Challenge ME ‘Silver’ Champion, Faisal Binladen will run in the tradition Green and Chrome Green associated with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Watch out for a full post, but in the meantime, check out the rest of these awesome images from Abduallah Al Rodan and Crank and Piston here.

Ensuring your race team, brand and partner stands out on track in 2014 is more important than ever.
With a premier new championship in North America, brand recognition through a striking team design and livery is important where full or oversubscribed grids will be the norm and multiple classes, of which many will have limited TV exposure. The series has also introduced new number and positon placements which will make livery designs more challenging.
Europe sees similar challenges with new rules in the Prototype class of the WEC taking the headlines and a wide range of GT championships including British GT, Blancpain Endurance Series, FIA GT and GT Open.
2014 is already taking shape for many teams with sponsorship and livery proposals underway. My first 2014 livery will be shown in a couple of weeks.
In preparation, I have built up an extensive selection of four view templates to kick start any livery projects which you commission. The majority of these templates have been created using OEM information and data.
The first Andy Blackmore Design Newsletter is now online. Designed to showcase my work to fans and teams, the newsletter will be an occasional email. The first issue is directed at drivers, teams and sponsors to ensure they are ready for the challenges which 2014 will bring.
The next newsletter will follow in December and have a Holiday/Christmas theme complete with a little bit of a challenge thrown in!
There after, the newsletter will be less regular so it doesn’t feel up your in boxes.

November 1st sees the launch of the new IMSA.com website, which will provide all the official series coverage for the Tudor United Sports Car Championship and Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge.
With my long association with the IMSA run American Le Mans Series, I was asked to provide illustrations for each style of car in the 2014 United Sports Car Championship to educate visitors of the class structure. Another example of how Spotter Guide Illustrations can be used for multiple projects.
IMSA also used my side illustrations for their Competitor Bulletin on the new number panels and class branding.
Drop me a line if you have an exciting project you want to discuss at SEMA. I will be at the show Tuesday 5- Thursday 7th November. Use my contact form on the website or leave me a message on Facebook or Twitter (links below)
This is a great example on how a team or sponsor can use the Spotter Guide artwork to help their VIP’s and guesta at the circuit, in addition to building brand awareness.
Porsche North American agency, Momentum Worldwide, contacted me last month to create a special ‘z-card’ Porsche Spotter Guide layout for their VIP’s at Petit Le Mans. Porsche has a huge presence at the blue riband events such as Petit Le Mans and have their own building constructed on top of the hill, above the pits.
It may only be October, but the first 2014 race seasons are now underway in the Middle East. The UAE Touring Car Championship runs until Spring 2014 and will race on all the major middle eastern tracks including Bahrain, Dubai and this past weekend, Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi.
I recently completed a design for Irish racer Jonathan Mullan on his fully rebuilt Honda Integra R. The team, based in Abu Dhabi had seen my Saudi Falcons work and required a livery a little different from the norm, but with a black base and green accents as per their two main sponsors EC Harris and ZettaNet.
